The Stanley Nut - Summit

The Nut is Stanley’s most dominant feature.  It is the plug of a volcano that last erupted some seven million years ago.  It is 152 metres high and is surrounded by Bass Strait on three sides, with the charming village at the base of the other.

The walk up is a reasonably steep and takes most people about 10 – 15 minutes, or you can take the chairlift.  Once at the top, you can take an easy 45 minute walk around, taking in the awesome views over the town, along the coast and across Bass Strait.

It can rain from time to time, it does get windy and there is no shelter.  This is a great potential venue, but we always need a “backup” plan.

M.V. Sylvia - C

Leaving from the pontoon at the fisherman's dock in Stanley, your scenic cruise takes in spectacular views of the Stanley Nut, the unique township, the old pioneer cemetery and Godfrey’s Beach. Historic farmlands extend to the waterline below, where ocean-eroded caves scatter the shoreline.

You could choose to head North and visit a local seal colony at Bull Rock, where up to 500 seals bask in the sunshine or frolic playfully in the crystal-clear waters of Bass Strait.  For an extended cruise, or in times of rougher wheather, you could choose to explore the sheltered waters of Sawyer bay and along the Tassie’s North coast toward Port Latta.
